This Is How Waterborne Clear Coat Is Changing The Auto Industry.

Updated: Dec 28, 2022

In the last several years alone, waterborne paint has increasingly become an important part of the auto industry's paint process. When it comes to waterborne paint systems, there are many benefits and drawbacks to consider, especially when it comes to protecting your cherished ride.

BENEFITS

In direct comparison to solvent based clear coat which contain volatile compounds and other dangerous pollutants, waterborne is much cleaner. Waterborne clear coat has fewer toxins and will evaporate from the air faster than a solvent based clear. It is also much less flammable and easier to meet safety regulations. Waterborne clear is also much safer for employees and those working around the chemicals. It is also more economical.

DISADVANTAGES

Waterborne clear coats take longer to dry and cure in high humidity and lower tempurature environments. Solvent based clear has a higher sheen. Two layers of solvent based clear is thicker than two layers of waterborne clear. Solvent based clear is also more durable. Water based clear can be damaged from rock chips and stone chips much easier than solvent based clear.

Overview

With most new vehicles receiving waterborne clear coat as manufacturers switch over to the system, it is important to choose protection for your vehicles finish carefully. Here at Apex Detail, Wernersville Pennsylvania, we offer top shelf options including STEK PPF paint protection film. DYNOshield provides you with a premium top-coated Paint Protection Film (PPF). Our nano-ceramic top coat is bonded to the film at a molecular level providing extreme hydrophobic properties and virtually eliminating the need for waxes and after-market top coatings. DYNOshield also has strong self-healing properties allowing light surface scratches to "heal" back to a smooth and glossy finish. Our proprietary top coat combined with UV-resistant, anti-yellowing adhesives gives DYNOshield unique clarity and performance with extreme puncture resistance.

We also offer the highest quality Polysilazane Coatings on the market. How Does Turner Coatings Polysiloxane Coatings Work?

To put it simply, they are high solids coatings with a low coefficient of friction. This allows the coating to shed dirt, grime, and water. Keeping the coating fresh and allowing the UV stable chemistry to provide great longevity and physical resistance.

At Apex Detail, we can customize a package just for you and available budget. We do not just force a pre-arranged package on you. Meaning we can coat your car, apply PPF, combine the two with film and coatings working in tandem, or just protect areas you are concerned with when it comes to minor bumps and bruises along with rock chips. A softer, waterborne clear coat is not the end of the world when it comes to automotive finishes. It just makes choosing the right shop to protect your car, truck or motorcycle a little more important.
